Plymouth Gin and Dartmouth PotteryValid XHTML 1.0 Transitional

From the late 50's, Plymouth Gin commissioned Dartmouth Pottery and their sister company Britannia Designs to produce several Plymouth Gin promotional and advertising items.

Most notable among these  are the Fish or Gurgling Jugs and the International Code of Signals Dishes and as such, we have devoted pages to each of these items

Gurgle Jugs   Signal Dishes

So far we have identified several other items produced for Plymouth Gin by Dartmouth Potteries and Britannia Designs for Plymouth Gin, they are detailed here. There may be more, so if you have any information please let us know.

Black Friar Gin Monk Puzzle Jug

This Jug was produced around 1960 and has various holes and spouts,  these have to be blocked off by the drinker, or else when the jug is drunk from,  the liquid pours out and all over the drinker! If the contents were Plymouth Gin, What a waste!!.
At the time that this jug was made, Plymouth Gin was owned by Seager Evans who were using BLACK FRIAR as a trade name. This can also be seen on the Black Friar Extra Dry London Gin miniature in the Miniature Section

Plymouth Gin Mermaid Jug

Produced in the late 1960's/1970's. This Dartmouth Mermaid Jug was produced in two colours Brown and Sage Green. The jug features a Mermaid "kneeling" in a shell with her tail curled up to the back of her head, her hands are resting on the front of the shell which has "Plymouth Gin" moulded on the front. Interestingly, after the Plymouth Gin commission for this item ended, Dartmouth Pottery continued production without the "Plymouth Gin" wording.
