Plymouth Gin, like almost every spirit producer world wide, has produced miniature bottle versions of their products. Miniature bottles are a great historical reflection of the companies products and history and can in them selves provide a great insight into the past of Coates and Co, the production and distribution around the world and the many different labels used by Plymouth Gin.

In 1975 Plymouth Gin was added to the Whitbread Group and then in 1991 to Allied-Lyons, later Allied Domecq.

The label underwent a major change with the virtual loss of the Black Friar. It was replaced with an image of a 19th Century British Man of War in Devonport Harbour surmounted with a crest comprising of an anchor in a shield flanked on each side by a Black Friar raising a glass. This crest appears in white on the earlier bottles until c 1991 and in gold until 1998

In 1996 a small group of private investors acquired Plymouth Gin and started the restoration of Plymouth Gin to its original position in the market.

The label underwent a major redesign with the ship being replaced with the Pilgrim Fathers Mayflower. The Black Friar returned, this time inside the rear label. This lead to the saying "when his feet get dry, it's time for another bottle"
